2016 RDGA Women’s Open at Brook-Lea: Celebrating Women’s Golf in Rochester!

A statue of golf course architect Donald Ross looks out over the 9th green at Brook-Lea Country Club during the recent Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic. The historic club – first opened in 1926 – will host the 2016 RDGA Women’s Open on Monday, August 29.

The Rochester District Golf Association is excited to be hosting the popular RDGA Women’s Open for a third straight year – bringing together women golfers of all abilities in the spirit of competition and cameraderie!

Scheduled for Monday, August 29, the 2016 RDGA Women’s Open is an event for all women who have an active USGA-GHIN Handicap Index. The format will consist of 18 holes of stroke play – with multiple flights, so that players will be competing against other players of similar abilities. The 2016 Women’s Open will be contested from the Green/Red tees at 5,359 yards and a par of 73.

There will be an overall Low Net Score winner and Overall Gross Score winner. Each will receive a trophy to display at their home clubs for the next year – and, along with Net Score Flight winners, will earn points towards the RDGA Women’s Player of the Year award, to be announced at the end of the season. Flight winners’ prizes will be awarded to approximately 1/3 of the field.

Hosting this year’s RDGA Women’s Open will be historic Brook-Lea Country Club – an 18-hole private championship golf course celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2016. One of six Donald Ross-designed golf courses in the Rochester area, Brook-Lea has hosted several RDGA Championships through the years, including the RDGA District Championship in 2009. For the past two years, Brook-Lea has also hosted the LPGA’s Symetra Tour in Rochester for the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic.
