Reservoir Creek Hosts the RDGA’s Season Opening Event: The Two Person Scramble

Reservoir Creek Golf Club in the scenic Village of Naples hosted the season’s first RDGA tournament on Saturday, May 2 – the RDGA Two Person Scramble.
 
A beautiful spring day greeted the 46 two-person teams who competed in the opening event of the Rochester District Golf Association’s 2015 tournament schedule on Saturday, May 2 – the RDGA Two Person Scramble – hosted by the equally beautiful Reservoir Creek Golf Club in the scenic Southern Tier village of Naples.
With the field of competitors battling for top honors in four handicap flights for men and one for women – the men’s teams were also competing to claim the top overall score, which earned two exemptions into the RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Memorial in July.
 
Finishing in the top position overall – and winning the two exemptions into the District Championship – was the team of Jacob Reimer and Kevin Thornton, with a combined score of 9-under-par 62.
In the Women’s Division, the team of Suzanne Yarnall and Joan Leroy took top honors with a score of 72. The team of Karenne Roberts and Sherre Albright finished in second place with a score of 83, and the team of Sharon White and Janet Kowal posted a score of 84 to finish in third place.
 
In the Men’s Divisions, top honors for Flight 1 went to the team of Reimer and Thornton, followed by the team of Matt Cairo and Zach Hicks, with a score of 63 to finish in second place. Three teams finished in a tie for third place in Flight 1, including: Chris McCormick and Don Fortuna, Bryan Tallie and Shane Hewitson and John Bodine and Steve Fisher. All three teams finished with scores of 64.
 
In Flight 2, two teams tied for first place with scores of 67, including the teams of Kevin Conklin and Mike Fortuna, and Brian Burri and Philip Yager. Finishing in third place, with a score of 68, was the team of Ernie Truax and Brian Sinclair.
 
In Flight 3, the team of Joe Bogue and Gerald Shaughnessy claimed first place honors with a score of 66. The team of Steven Schickler and Robert Brongo finished in second place with a round of 68, followed by the team of Allan Hanaburgh and Craig Freeman, which finished in third place with a 69.
 
Flight 4 was won by the team of Brian Hauck and Brad Moody, with a score of 71, followed by the team of Bud Klafehn and Tim Dimino, which finished in second place with a score of 74. There was a tie for third place at 75 between two teams: Doug Taylor and Gary Cantaben, as well as Joe Oslovsky and Francesco Franzese.
 

Following play, golfers were treated to a pulled pork barbeque dinner, served in Reservoir Creek’s spacious new outdoor party pavilion.

The next event on the 2015 RDGA tournament schedule is another team event for men and women – the RDGA Two Person Four Ball – hosted by Old Hickory Golf Club in Livonia on Saturday, May 9, with competition in three flights: Men’s Blue Tee, Men’s White Tee and Women’s.
