RDGA Tournament Schedule Concludes With Mid-Handicap Event at Midvale

Golfers play the par-3 18th hole at Midvale Country Club during the RDGA Mid Handicap Event on Sept. 29.

Golfers took advantage of another unseasonably warm autumn day on Sept 29 at Midvale Country Club for the RDGA Mid-Handicap Event No. 2 – the final event on the 2014 Rochester District Golf Association tournament schedule.
The beautiful Fall weather more closely resembled mid-Summer, rather than late September, giving the 65 golfers in the field an early preview of the host course for next year’s 2015 RDGA Rochester District Championships.

The Mid Handicap format – featuring players 18 and over with an official USGA/RDGA handicap index of 10.0 or higher – included competition in Net (handicap) and Gross Score Divisions for both Men’s and Women’s flights.

Chet Canary of Woodlynn Hills Golf Course finished with a handicap-adjusted score of 5-under-par 67 to win the Men’s Net Division, while Alan Porteous of Fairport posted a raw score of 79 to win the Men’s Gross Score Division.

In the Women’s competition, Cheryl Ferguson of Genesee Valley Golf Club posted a handicap-adjusted score of 6-over-par 81 to win the Women’s Net Division, while Jan Ricci of Durand Eastman Golf Club finished with a 101 to win the Women’s Gross Score Division.

Following play, the contestants were treated to a delicious buffet dinner prepared by the Midvale kitchen staff, putting the final touches to a perfect day of golf on the classic Robert Trent Jones-designed layout. The RDGA expresses thanks to the entire staff and membership of Midvale for the outstanding service and hospitality provided throughout the event.
