Join us in upholding the tradition of excellence across the Rochester Golf Community. All volunteers receive an RDGA-logoed golf shirt, as well as a lunch on the day you volunteer at an event.

Starting Official
A starter works at the 1st and/or 10th tee calling players to the tee, giving them information for the day, scorecards, etc.. and keeping the tournament on schedule following the tee time sheets. Starters are needed for our 2 Person Events, and our best starters help with our Championships.
The RDGA will provide a training class and extensive help and support to all starters. Shifts are generally 3 to 4 hours long.
This position is truly a fun interactive position ideal for outgoing personalities, and is integral in the success of the tournament.

Scoring Official
Scoring Official – A scorer works out on the golf course at designated holes to ask players for their scores, and records them, for each hole prior to that particular scoring station. This helps the RDGA provide ‘live scoring’ for our major events. Scorers are needed for the Monroe Invitational, Men’s RDGA Championship, Men’s RDGA Senior Championship and both Girls and Boys Junior Championships.
The RDGA will provide information and training on how to do the scoring. Shifts are generally 3 to 4 hours long.

Rules Official
Rules Official – this position requires detailed knowledge of the rules of golf and extensive testing and training. It is a vital position for our RDGA tournaments, and we are always interested in finding and developing new rules team members
Anyone interested in potentially becoming a rules official will be given ride-along sessions to show what the position is like. Training follows if the person wishes to learn. Self-training and rules study are important traits of a successful rules official. Training at USGA rules workshops are provided to qualified team members.
Once qualified, rules officials may select their own schedules from our tournament schedule, working whole or half days.

RDGA Board/Committee Volunteer
Board/Committee Volunteer – If you have interest in joining some of the leadership positions within the RDGA, starting as a volunteer on a committee is welcomed. Various RDGA committees include: Volunteers, Tournaments, Nominating, Strategy, Rules, Hall of Fame, Course Rating, Sponsorship and Handicapping. Potentially moving up to a Board position could follow time on a committee.
These positions are an approximate once per month commitment. If you are interested in becoming involved we would make a request to our Nominating committee. If approved, generally, then the next step is to have you come sit in on a few meetings to learn about the role and see if you wish to continue.

Course Rater
Course Rating Volunteer – A course rating volunteer is responsible for implementing some of the many steps that make up a USGA Course Rating. Course raters measure holes, evaluate obstacles and difficulty, and assign numerical values that are entered into data charts. The Course Rating system is the backbone of the USGA Handicap Index®.
Course Raters work as teams. Extensive training is needed and provided by experienced RDGA Course Raters. USGA training and guidelines are followed.
