The Junior RDGA Player of the Year Award
The Rochester District Golf Association began its Junior Player of the Year Award in 2006 as a way to honor the year's top junior players - ages 12 through 17 - based on points earned from local, regional and national junior tournaments throughout the season.
Today, the Junior RDGA Player of the Year Points Schedule consists of 13 events, from RDGA Junior tournaments to State, local and USGA Championships - including regular RDGA events in which juniors are eligible to play. An additional 20 points may also be assigned by the RDGA Junior Committee.
Now in its 11th season, the Junior RDGA Player of the Year Award has been presented to several outstanding Junior players who have since gone on to become top amateurs - such as Pittsford's Gavin Hall - as well as a professional tour golfer (Dominic Bozzelli).
Winning the 2016 RDGA Junior Player of the Year Award was Christian Chapman of Ravenwood Golf Club. Chapman, a senior on the Victor High School Boys Golf Team this year, won 282 player points during a season in which he won individual titles for the Monroe County League and the Section V Boys Golf Championship. He also qualified for the New York State High School Championship and was named a first-team All-Star for Monroe County.
