RDGA Ryan Championship Set for July 10-14 at Ridgemont CC

Rochester,New York July 2, 2007 – The Rochester District Golf Association has set the final field for this year’s men’s championship to be held at Ridgemont Country Club Wednesday through Saturday, July 11-14. This will mark the ninth time Ridgemont has hosted this most prestigious RDGA Championship. The field is comprised of 104 players, including the top 15 finishers from previous years’ tournaments and players from two qualifiers that took place the last week of June, this year. Last year’s winner, Stephen Goodrich of Stafford CC, will not be able to defend his championship. Stephen was selected as one of only 12 collegiate golfers in the U.S. to compete in the annual USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship at Rancho Santa Margarita, California, during the same week.

Last year’s runner-up, Jim Scorse also of Stafford CC, will be in the field as well as Scott Harris Jr. of Caledonia CC, who came in third in 2006.

Andrew Kay, Oak Hill, was low medalist in the Blue Division qualifier of 101 competitors, held at Centerpointe CC. Kay shot the lowest round of both qualifiers by shooting a five under par 66. The medalists at the Green Division Qualifier, with 96 competitors, was Kevin Thornton, Genesee Valley Golf Club, and David Chong, Mill Creek Golf Club, who both shot 73, one over par, at Deerfield in very hot, windy conditions.

This is the 77^th RDGA Championship and the 25^th year since it has been named after John H. Ryan Jr., who won consecutive titles in 1981 and 1982 before his untimely death in 1982. The 2007 Championship will mark the ninth time that Ridgemont has hosted the event the first being in 1935 when it was won by John McGrath.
