RDGA Moves For First
Bylaw Change in 20 Years
Delegates Invited to
Vote at Special September 18 Meeting
Rochester, NY, September 6, 2006 – The Rochester
District Golf Association is changing its Bylaws for the first time in nearly
two decades. The process has been underway for well over three years and is
culminating with an approval meeting to be held at the District offices at 144
Metro Park on Monday, September 18. The meeting will begin promptly at 7PM.
All regular club delegates of the 65 RDGA member clubs have
been invited to attend this historic meeting, which will involve discussion of
the proposed Bylaws, and an extended period of questions and answers. Members of
the RDGA Executive Committee will be available to explain and answer all
questions concerning the new proposed Bylaws. Legal counsel will also be
available to assist with the interpretation of the Bylaw revision process.
Following a thorough review, a vote on the new Bylaws will be taken; each club
in attendance will be allocated one vote.
The current Bylaws have guided the RDGA for the last 20
years, but because the size, the complexity and the responsibilities of the
Association have increased dramatically, the need to modernize the Bylaws became
evident. RDGA President Jim Cook points out that this has been in the works for
some time. “I have been at the RDGA for almost a decade and changing the Bylaws
has been discussed every year. We had an Executive Committee that made it a
priority this year and we feel optimistic that the changes will be approved by
the Delegates, “ says Cook. “We also wanted to update our document to conform
with changes in New York State Not-For-Profit Corporation Law.”
This Bylaw change hopes to be another major accomplishment
for the RDGA in 2006. This year many changes have been made to enhance the
organization for its member clubs:
-Moving the popular Match-Play
Tournament to the beginning of the golf schedule in May.
-Introducing a new Southwest
Regional Tournament so as to allow more participation from that
area of the RDGA. This will
expand into an even larger tournament in 2007.
-Purchasing a permanent site for
the RDGA offices.
-Enhancing the website with
Paypal, a pilot online registration and payment program.
-Expanding the Scholarship
Program from 10 to 12 awards.
-Development of a Board Liaison
Program to speed up communication with member clubs.
-A new Junior Tournament, the
East/West Cup, held at the end of the summer with a Ryder Cup
format.
