2016 RDGA Junior, Sub-Junior and Pee Wee Champions Crowned at Clifton Springs CC

Locust Hill’s Jason Lohwater captured the 2016 RDGA Junior Boys Championship title at Clifton Springs Country Club on August 4 in a 2-and-1 decision over Oak Hill’s Jack Bailey in the championship match.
 

 

The 2016 RDGA Junior Championships concluded on August 4 at Clifton Springs Country Club. The three-day Junior, Sub-Junior and Pee Wee Championships featured no less than six sepatate competitions – including competition for Junior (ages 15 to 17), Sub-Junior (12 to 14) and Pee Wee (7 to 11) divisions for both boys and girls.
 
Winning the overall RDGA Junior Boys title was Jason Lohwater of Locust Hill who defeated Oak Hill’s Jack Bailey by a 2-and-1 decision in Thursday morning’s championship match. Lohwater defeated Penfield’s Frederic Shi, 2-and-1, in the Semi Final round, while Bailey got past Tyler McDonnell, 5-and-3, in the other Junior Boys Semi Final match.

In the RDGA Sub Junior Boys Championship, Graham Gaenzle of the Country Club of Rochester defeated Adam Tata of Oak Hill, 3-and-1 in the championship final to win the title.
 
Gaenzle defeated Mason Rivera, 4-and-2, in the Semi Final round to advance to the finals, while Tata defeated Michael Klem, 1-up, in the other Sub Junior Boys Semi Final match.

In the RDGA Junior Girls Championship – which featured 36 holes of stroke play competition over two days – Lena Kaufman of Locust Hill claimed first place with rounds of 75-76–151. Sydney Ball, also of Locust Hill, was the runner-up with scores of 88-89–177.

In the RDGA Sub Junior Girls Championship – which featured 27 holes of stroke play competition over three days – Kahlan Vanschaffel of Blue Heron Hills won the title with scores of 45-53-51 for a 149 total. Raina Hoffman of Webster was the runner-up with scores of 58-49-58–165.

In the RDGA Pee Wee Girls Championship – which featured 18 holes of stroke play over two days – Julia Zigrossi of Ridgemont captured the title with 9-hole rounds of 45-48 for a 93 total. Sophia Cellura of Brook-Lea was the runner-up with 62-54–116.

And, in the RDGA Pee Wee Boys Championship – which featured 18 holes of stroke play over two days – Noah Barravecchia of Mill Creek won the title with scores of 42-42–84. Jason Starkweather of Ridgemont was the runner-up with 43-43–86.

With most of the 2016 RDGA Junior tournament schedule now complete, the final performance points for the season will be tallied – with the top 6 point winners in both the Boys Junior and Boys Sub-Junior divisions earning invitations to compete in the annual Interdistrict Junior Championship, to be hosted by Geneva Country Club on Friday, August 19. The Interdistrict features 18 holes of stroke play between teams from the Rochester, Syracuse and Buffalo Districts.
