Syracuse, Rochester, Claim Interdistrict Junior, Sub-Junior Titles at Canandaigua

The annual competition between the top juniors in the Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse Districts – the Interdistrict Junior Championship – was hosted by Canandaigua Country Club on Friday, August 22.

The 18-hole competition, which pits teams of Junior (ages 15-17) and Sub-Junior (12-14) boys from each District, counts the low 4 scores in each age division for each District.

Winning the Junior Division title was the team from the Syracuse District. Contributing to the team victory was Danny Lapp, with a round of 72; Jack Bellardini, with a round of 73; Andrew Massa, with a round of 75; and Jon Petrin, with a round of 75. The team total of 295 was better than Rochester (301) and Buffalo (303). Also playing for the Syracuse Junior squad was Matt Monaco (83) and Jeremy Sisson (93).

Winning the Sub-Junior Division title was the team from the RDGA, including: Jeremy Summerson, with a score of 76; Jason VanderZwaag, with a score of 77; Raymond Ottman, with a score of 83; and T.J. Buck, with a score of 85. Also playing for the RDGA Sub Juniors was Tyler McDonnell (86) and Jude Cummings (96). Rochester’s team total of 321 was better than Buffalo (334) and Syracuse (337).

In the individual competition, Buffalo’s Ben Reichert was the Junior Division medalist, with a 2-under-par 68. Rochester’s Evan Gaesser was the runner-up with a 1-under-par 69. In the Sub-Junior Division, Kyle Gilroy of Syracuse was the medalist with a 3-over-par 75. Rochester’s Jeremy Summerson was runner-up with a 4-over-par 76.
